5 Signs You Need a New Roof

Oct 22, 2021

A good roof will protect you and your family from harsh weather and outside intrusion. That said, homeowners should always be on the lookout for roof problems that require fixing to prevent emergency repairs and replacements. However, the signs are not always obvious. Here are five signs you need a new roof.

1. Regular Roof Leaks

One obvious sign that you need a new roof is regular leaks. Don't ignore even a small leak because it can grow and cause significant damage to your possession. Always check your attic, especially after rainfall, for any leaks, because most roof leaks start here. Call professional roof contractors to repair or replace your roof if you notice any leaks.

2. Old Age

You need a new roof if your home is at least 20 years old, even if the roof looks good. Older roots were manufactured with materials that are no longer perceived as strong today. If you bought a home and have no knowledge about the roof's age, conduct a thorough inspection of the roof. Look out for rot and completely damaged areas. Color changes are also a sign that your roof is old and requires replacement.

3. Falling Shingles and Tiles

Missing shingles and tiles are a sign that you need a new roof. Shingles could start falling off because of old age and poor condition. On the other hand, tiles falling off tiled roots could be due to old sealants and missing nails. If your roof is missing shingles or tiles, it is time to get a new one.

4. Growth

The presence of growth, including algae, mold, moss, and mildew, on your roof, is a sign that you need a new roof. Growth could be due to a leaky roof or condensation. Before going for a roof repair or replacement, check your insulation, ventilation, and plumbing. If all of them are working correctly, and you still spot growth, you need a new roof.

5. Cracks

Visible cracks on your roof can be due to hail or wind damage. If only the shingles are cracked, replace them. However, replace the entire roof if the cracks are widespread. Another sign of cracks on your roof is light coming through the roof. You need to get a new roof to eliminate all cracks.

After determining that you need a new roof, the next step is to get a suitable roof for your home. According to Signet Research, durability (88%) is the first factor to consider when buying a new roof, followed by longevity (83%). A durable and long-lasting roof will save you from regular roof repair and replacement.
